Heythrop College is a specialist college within the University of London. The College was founded in 1614 for the training of English Jesuits. The College moved to London in 1970, and in 1971 became one of the colleges of the University of London. 

Among a wide variety of courses at Bachelor and Masters level Heythrop College offers Master of Arts in Pastoral Liturgy (MA)

This part-time course can be taken over two or three years part-time.

This exciting degree covers the field of Pastoral Liturgy, and has attracted students from a variety of backgrounds and traditions.

Programme of Study

  1. An assessed module from the History of Liturgy.
  2. Three other assessed modules,
  3. A dissertation on an approved topic not exceeding 15,000 words.

The Programme consists of the following modules:

History Modules:

  • History of Liturgy to 1900
  • The Liturgical Movement from 1900

Other Modules:

  • Modern Theologies of Liturgy (prerequisite: The Liturgical Movement from 1900)
  • Symbol and Ritual

Special Subject:

  • Students may select another liturgical topic on condition that it meets certain necessary requirements regarding content and supervision. Arrangements are made through consultation with the Degree Convenor.

The course is taught at Heythrop College, Kensington Square, London W8 5HQ.
